France plans 100,000 jobs in renewables in the next few years.
Reuters reported today Segolene Royal, the recently appointed French Energy and Environment Minister plans to bring 100,000 new jobs to the French economy and renewables industry in just three years.
The new minister plans to drive growth in the sector by accelerating investment in renewable energy including wind, solar, biomass and marina coupled with a building insulation campaign and financing options for low income French families.
Segolene Royal also has ambitious plans to limit the rise in electricity prices despite the accelerating hikes in energy prices. France currently is 75 per cent reliant on nuclear energy and aims to reduce this to 50 per cent by 2025.
In comparison the UK has reduced its reliance on nuclear energy with the closure of nuclear plants and nuclear energy production now stands at less than 20% , energy from renewables now exceeds 10% and is forecasted at 35% by 2020. (Source: Wikipedia).
