IT Update: Google is investing in women and minority groups to help bridge the skills and diversity gap.
In the US Google has announced it is partnering with www.codeschool.com to offer 3 months training to thousands of women and minority groups after statistics were released they describe as “sobering”. Just a quarter of IT and technology jobs in the US are held by women and only 3% of engineers and scientists have African-American roots. Google’s own employee make up reflects these statistics with just 17% women and 3% from minority ethnicities.

In the UK just 6% of engineers are female and over 80% of computer science degrees are gained by men. (Source http://www.wes.org.uk/statistics).
